History
The idea was born in the 1970s and since 1983, De Hobbit, a second generation family business, has been an established name in the world of organic meat substitutes. It all started with the production of tempeh, a meat substitute made from fermented soya beans.
Convinced of the many advantages of a vegetarian diet, De Hobbit quickly expanded its range to include seitan, tofu and, more recently, lupin and hemp products. Today, they produce more than 40 different vegan products in their workshop in Maldegem, near Bruges.
De Hobbit tofu: 100% European soy, 100% made in Belgium, 100% delicious
When you buy a packet of tofu from De Hobbit, it is always made from European soya beans. This means that the beans do not travel far to reach their company in Maldegem and there is no deforestation of the rainforest.
In addition, De Hobbit is fully committed to testing with Belgian soya, which will further shorten the chain from farm to fork!
Of course, De Hobbit only uses certified organic and non-genetically modified soya beans. Soy is a legume, derived from the soy plant, and contains up to 35% of protein. This is what makes soy so interesting and why it has been used for centuries as a meat substitute!
